OBJECTIVES: Visulization of endolymphatic hydrops has been reported using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with Meniere's disease. However, the relationship between the endolymphatic hydrops visualized by MRI and audio-vestibular functional tests have not been sufficiently investigated, such as pure tone audiometry (PTA), electrocochleography (EcoG), and vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP).

Auris Nasus Larynx. 2013 Apr;40(2):167-72. doi: 10.1016/j.anl.2012.07.009. Epub 2012 Aug 4. Typically, endolymphatic hydrops causes a reduced vestibular response in the affected ear, although response may be paradoxically increased secondary to an irritative lesion. The patient may feel Secondary Endolymphatic Hydrops, SEH, is a vestibular system disorder caused by endolymphatic response to an underlying condition .In a normal ear, the fluid in your ear is maintained at a homeostatic level to help your balance, hearing, and spatial orientation. HYDROPS images were generated on the scanner console by subtracting the PEI from the PPI for the visualization of endolymphatic hydrops.

Generally, standard audiometric testing will diagnose the hearing loss of individuals with aural problems. Endolymphatic Hydrops MRI is a highly recommendable diagnostic tool to evaluate endolymphatic hydrops in Menière's disease.

2001-12-01 2014) does not mention the use of dehydration testing as a diagnostic tool. Note: Osmotic diuretics such as urea and isosorbide that can be taken orally have also been used as treatment for endolymphatic hydrops. Genetic Testing: In a case‐report, Yoshida et al (2015) reported magnetic diagnostic value for delayed endolymphatic hydrops.

ENDOLYMPHATIC HYDROPS AND MENIERE'S DISEASE Last Updated 1/2007 Endolymphatic hydrops and Meniere's disease are disorders of the inner ear. Although the cause is unknown, it probably results from an abnormality of the fluids of the inner ear. In most cases, only one ear is involved but both ears may be affected in up to 20% of patients. The

Grading of the cochlear EH (A–C) is done at the slice of the mid-modiolar level.

endolymphatic hydrops. In this test a tiny electrode is placed in the ear canal near the inner ear. The tiny electrical impulses from the hair cells of hearing in the inner ear are then recorded and characteristic changes which are seen in conditions of inner ear pressure are looked for. hearing function) may support a hydrops diagnosis. New research has shown that MRI with contrast in the inner ear can give a definitive diagnosis of endolymphatic hydrops, but likely would not be able to differentiate between primary (Meniere’s) and secondary. This is most commonly not used because clinical diagnosis is often accurate.

This article reviews the present state of diagnostic testing for endolymphatic hydrops. The use of nonspecific studies, such as basic audiometry and tests for recruitment, and "specific" studies, such as electrocochleography and dehydration testing, are critically reviewed.

We used 3T MR imaging to detect and grade endolymphatic hydrops in patients with Menière disease and to correlate MR imaging findings with the clinical severity.

Cervical VEMP (cVEMP) is an inhibitory sacculocollic reflex test that shows characteristic changes in symptomatic ears of Meniere patients, and may detect early saccular hydrops before the onset of classic Meniere symptoms.
